ChAP 1.0: a stationary tropospheric sulfur cycle for Earth system models of intermediate complexity
نویسندگان
چکیده
Abstract. A stationary, computationally efficient scheme ChAP 1.0 (Chemical and Aerosol Processes, version 1.0) for the sulfur cycle in troposphere is developed. This designed Earth system models of intermediate complexity (EMICs). The accounts dioxide emissions into atmosphere, its deposition to surface, oxidation sulfates, dry wet sulfates on surface. calculations with are forced by anthropogenic atmosphere 1850–2000 adopted from CMIP5 dataset ERA-Interim meteorology assuming that natural sources remain unchanged during this period. output compared changes tropospheric simulations data, IPCC TAR ensemble, ACCMIP phase II simulations. In addition, regions strong pollution, results other such as CAMS reanalysis, EMEP MSC-W, individual model Our reasonably reproduces characteristics known these information sources. our scheme, about half emitted deposited rest oxidised sulfates. turn, mostly removed deposition. lifetimes close 1 5 d, respectively. limitations acknowledged, prospects future development figured out. Despite simplicity, may be successfully used simulate pollution at coarse spatial scales timescales.

Earth-System Models of Intermediate Complexity Introductory Remarks
Background and Motivation Investigating the dynamic behavior of the Earth system remains a “grand challenge” for the scientific community. It is motivated by our limited knowledge about the consequences of large-scale perturbations of the Earth system by human activities, such as fossil-fuel combustion or the fragmentation of terrestrial vegetation cover. Will the system behave resilient with r...
متن کاملDescription of the Earth system model of intermediate complexity
The main characteristics of the new version 1.2 of the three-dimensional Earth system model of intermediate complexity LOVECLIM are briefly described. LOVECLIM 1.2 includes representations of the atmosphere, the ocean and sea ice, the land surface (including vegetation), the ice sheets, the icebergs and the carbon cycle. The atmospheric component is ECBilt2, a T21, 3-level quasigeostrophic mode...

متن کاملBiogeophysical effects of historical land cover changes simulated by six Earth system models of intermediate complexity
Six Earth system models of intermediate complexity that are able to simulate interaction between atmosphere, ocean, and land surface, were forced with a scenario of land cover changes during the lastmillennium. In response to historical deforestation of about 18 million sq km, themodels simulate a decrease in globalmean annual temperature in the range of 0.13–0.25 C. The rate of this cooling ac...
